Abstract

Abstract The invention provides a color image forming apparatus provided with an image carrying unit including a rotatable photoreceptor (11), a developing unit (30) including a plurality of developing devices (31), and a cleaning unit (20). The apparatus is formed with a lower casing (101) and an upper casing (102). In the upper casing, the image carrying unit, the developing unit and the cleaning unit are accommodated, in which at least two kinds of the units are incorporated in a cartridge (40) capable of being detachably installed in the upper casing. The upper casing is adapted pivotal between an open position and an operation position around an axis (103) which is disposed parallel to the rotation axis of the photoreceptor. When the upper casing is pivotted to the open position, the developing unit is so disposed that a side of the developing unit facing the photoreceptor becomes higher than other side of the developing unit.

A color image forming apparatus provided with an image carrying means having a rotation axis for carrying a latent image, a developing means facing said image carrying means and including a plurality of developing devices containing toner differing in color from each other for developing a latent image into a color toner image, and a cleaning means for cleaning a residual toner remaining on said image carrying means after a color toner image is transferred onto a transfer material, comprising a lower casing; and an upper casing mounted on said lower casing, said upper casing accomodating said image carrying means, said developing means and said cleaning means, wherein at least two kinds of means among said image carrying means, said developing means and said cleaning means are incorporated in a cartridge capable of being detachably installed in said upper casing, said upper casing adapted pivotal between an open position and an operation position around an axis which is disposed to be parallel to the rotation axis of said image carrying means, wherein, when said upper casing is pivotted to the open position, said developing means is so disposed that a side of said developing means facing said image carrying means becomes higher than other side of said developing means.

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein, when said upper casing is pivotted to the open position, said cartridge is adapted to be detached from said upper casing in a direction perpendicular to the rotation axis of said image carrying means.
