Abstract

Abstract An optical reading apparatus for optically reading information of a symbol on an article is comprised of a bar code reading circuit for emitting laser beams to a bar code printed on a commodity passing in front of the bar code reading circuit and for reading the information of the bar code from the laser beams reflected at the bar code. In the optical reading apparatus the bar code reading circuit includes a plurality of bar code readers (11-1 to 11-3) which are put toward a path through which the commodity is moved so that read areas formed by the bar code readers (11-1 to 11-3) contain the article moving path at different angles. A priority decision circuit (41) is provided for applying a selective operation to the data read by the bar code readers (11-1 to 11-3).

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 77 words
The optical reading apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said plurality of symbol reading sections are first, second and third symbol reading sections (11-1 to 11-3 in Fig. 2), said first symbol reading section (11-1) being disposed substantially right under said article moving path, said second symbol reading section (11-2) being disposed substantially just aside said article moving path, and said third symbol reading section (11-3) being disposed substantially right above said article moving path.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 61 words
The optical reading apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said plurality of symbol reading sections are first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2 in Fig. 10), said first symbol reading section (11-1) being disposed substantially right under said article moving path, and said second symbol reading section (11-2) being disposed substantially just aside said article moving path.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 76 words
The optical reading apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said plurality of symbol reading sections are first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2 in Fig. 11), said first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2) being vertically and separately disposed substantially just aside said article moving path, while being slanted toward said article moving path with respect to the boundary of said first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 76 words
The optical reading apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said plurality of symbol reading sections are first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2 in Fig. 12), said first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2) being horizontally and separately disposed substantially right under said article moving path, while being slanted toward said article moving path with respect to the boundary of said first and second symbol reading sections (11-1 and 11-2).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 56 words
The optical reading apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said data selective means includes a determining means (41) for selecting the initial read data from among those items of data read by said plurality of symbol reading sections, and determining the initial read data to be valid and the remaining data to be invalid.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 146 words
The optical reading apparatus according to claim 6, characterized in that each of said plurality of symbol reading sections includes means (19, 20, 21, 22, 25) for checking as to whether the data read by the symbol reading section is correct or not, if the data is correct, transmitting a data transmission request signal to said determining means (41), and transmitting the data to exterior upon receipt of an acknowledge signal from said determining means (41), and said determining means responds to a request signal that is first supplied from one of said plurality of symbol reading sections (11-1 to 11-3), and supplies an acknowledge signal to said symbol reading section that first supplied said request signal, and rejects for a predetermined period of time the request signals supplied from said symbol reading means other than said symbol reading means that first supplied said request signal.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 92 words
