Abstract

Abstract A flat panel display which allows for precise detection of the location of the cursor with respect to the displayed image. Parallax problems are eliminated by focusing the displayed image on a panel (35) by projection through the panel. The location of a stylus (114) is determined using known digitizing techniques together with the use of an erect, unity magnification imaging lens array (34) for displaying the projected image. Alternatively, the location of the stylus with respect to the displayed image is determined by causing the stylus to feed signals, for example optical signals, through a significant portion of the optical path used for displaying the image.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 36 words
A panel display comprising a screen (35) and projection means (31-33) positioned behind the screen for projecting an image thereonto, characterised in that the image is projected through the screen and focused onto the front thereof.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 36 words
A panel display comprising a screen (35) and projection means (31-33) positioned behind the screen for projecting an image thereonto, characterised in that the image is projected through the screen and focused onto the front thereof.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A panel display according to claim 1 further comprising means (34) for focusing the image onto the screen (35).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 16 words
A panel display according to claim 2 wherein the means for focusing comprises a lens (34).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
A panel display according to Claim 3 wherein said lens comprises an erect unity magnification imaging lens array (34).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
A panel display according any preceding claim comprising means for determining the position of a stylus (114) when said stylus is placed adjacent to said screen (35).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
A panel display according to Claim 5 wherein said means for determining comprises a digitizer (40).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
A panel display according to claim 6 wherein said digitizer (40) is either an electrostatic or an electromagnetic digitizer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 28 words
A panel display according to any of claims 5 to 7 means for determining comprises an imaging device (115) which receives a position signal from said stylus (114).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 20 words
A panel display as in Claim 8 wherein said image device receives said position signal through said means for focusing.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 23 words
A panel display according to claim 8 or 9 wherein said position signal is distinguishable from said image by wavelength, modulation, or polarization.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 23 words
A panel display according to any of claims 8 to 10 further comprising means for separating (36) said position signal from said image.
