Abstract

Abstract A vortex tube gas cleaning device 10 is used to clean a particle containing gas flow stream of particles. The device 10 has an outer tube 12 having an inlet 14 at an upstream end, and, in series downstream of the inlet 14 a vortex generator 16 in a vortex region 18, and a separation region 20. An inner extraction tube 30 is located at the downstream end of the tube 12 and extends concentrically within the outer tube 12, upstream, canti-lever fashion. A peripheral outlet region 24 is defined annularly around the inner tube 30 downstream of the separation region 20 and leads to outlet ports 48. A central outlet region 28 is defined within the inner to an outlet. The manner of location of the inner tube 30 ensures that the peripheral outlet region 24 is continuous or uninterrupted, especially also through an annular orifice 29. Upstream extremities 50 of the ports 48 are spaced from the annular orifice 29 a distance at least 25% of the nominal diameter of the tube 12.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 316 words
A vortex tube gas cleaning device or particle recovery device (10; 110) suitable for use in treating a particle containing gas flow stream to clean the gas of particles, or to recover particles from the gas, the device (10; 110, comprising an outer round tube (12; 112) having an inlet (14; 114) at one end which will be an upstream end in use; an axially arranged vortex or rotating flow generator (16; 116) in the tube (12; 112) downstream of the inlet (14; 114); a separation region (20; 120) downstream of the vortex generator (16; 116); a peripheral outlet region (24; 124) toward the periphery of the tube (12; 112) downstream of the separation region (20; 120); a central outlet region (28; 128) toward the centre of the tube (12; 112) downstream of the separation region (20; 120); an inner round extraction tube (30; 130), arranged concentrically within the outer round tube (12; 112) to separate the peripheral (24; 124) and central outlet (28; 128) regions, having an upstream end (42; 142) at a predetermined axial position corresponding to the downstream end of the separation region (20; 120), said upstream end defining a central orifice for said central outlet region (28; 128), and a downstream end providing an outlet means for the central outlet region (28; 128), characterized in that the inner round extraction tube (30; 130) is located (32; 132) relative to the outer tube (12; 112) at a predetermined axial position of the gas cleaning device (10; 1101 toward a downstream end thereof and such as to extend canti-lever fashion in an upstream direction to provide a continuous annular flow passage in the peripheral outlet region (24; 124), outlet means (48; 148) for the peripheral outlet region (24; 124) being provided upstream of the position of location (32; 132) of the inner round extraction tube (30; 130) relative to the outer tube (12; 112).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 74 words
A device as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the annular flow passage includes an annular orifice (29; 129) for the peripheral outlet region (24; 124) and in that, an or each upstream extremity (50; 150) of said outlet means (48; 148) is axially spaced downstream of the annular orifice a predetermined distance of at least 25% of the inner diameter of the outer round tube (12; 112) at its inlet (14; 114).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 78 words
A device as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that location (32; 132) of the inner tube (30; 130) relative to the outer tube (12; 112) includes concentric location of the inner tube (30; 130) relative to the outer tube (12; 112) male-female fashion by means of a socket portion (36; 136) at a downstream end of the outer tube (12; 1121 and a complemental spigot portion (34; 134) of the inner tube (30; 130).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 70 words
A device as claimed in claim l, claim 2 or claim 3, characterized in that location (32; 132) of the inner tube (30; 130) relative to the outer tube (12; 112) includes axial location of the inner tube (30; 130) relative to the outer tube (12; 112) by means of complemental inter-abutting checking surfaces (39, 38; 139, 138) respectively of the outer (12; 112) and the inner (30; 130) tubes.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 30 words
A device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the outlet means includes peripheral ports (48) through the outer tube (12) at circumferentially spaced positions.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 46 words
A device as claimed in any one of Claim 1 to Claim 4 inclusive, characterized in that the outlet means is provided by a single port (148) in the outer tube (112), which port (148) extends circumferentially continuously through an angle of between 90° and 180°.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 20 words
A device as claimed in Claim 6 characterized in that said port (148) extends through an angle of about 120°.
