Claim 2
Independent Claim 26 words
A method of security coding an article which comprises applying to the article an identification mark comprising at least one colourless or weakly-coloured infra-red absorbing material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A method according to Claim 1 in which the identification mark is in the form of a bar code.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method according to Claim 1 or Claim 2 in which the identification mark is disguised by means of a visually-opaque, i-r transparent foreground or background.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 31 words
A method according to any one of Claims 1 to 3 in which the identification mark also comprises a colorant having a significant absorption in the visible region of the spectrum.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 43 words
A method according to Claim 4 which comprises printing the identification mark in the form of a bar code on the article with an ink containing the weakly-coloured, infra-red absorbing material and a colorant having a significant absorption in the range 400-700 nm.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 28 words
A method according to any one of Claims 1 to 5 in which the identification mark comprises at least two weakly-coloured, infra-red absorbing materials having different spectral responses.
