Abstract

Abstract A polymer optical waveguide device is provided, wherein a polymer film having an optical waveguide formed therein is sandwiched between two substrates and secured to the substrates with a bonding agent. At least one of the substrates is a substrate having a groove in the inside in which the polymer film can be inserted, the depth of said groove is adjusted in such a manner that the size of the depth of the groove section defined by the two substrates is larger than the size of the thickness of the polymer film, and the polymer film is sandwiched between the substrates at the groove section and is bonded to the substrates with a bonding agent.

A polymer optical waveguide device wherein a polymer film having an optical waveguide formed therein is sandwiched between two substrates and secured to the substrates with a bonding agent, characterized in that at least one of the substrates is a substrate having a groove in the inside in which the polymer film can be inserted, the depth of said groove is constructed. in such a manner that the size of the depth of a groove section defined by the two substrates is larger than the size of the thickness of the polymer film, and the polymer film is sandwiched between the substrates at the groove section and is bonded to the substrates with a bonding agent.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 116 words
A polymer optical waveguide device wherein a polymer film having an optical waveguide formed therein is sandwiched between two substrates and secured to the substrates with a bonding agent, characterized in that at least one of the substrates is a substrate having a groove in the inside in which the polymer film can be inserted, the depth of said groove is constructed. in such a manner that the size of the depth of a groove section defined by the two substrates is larger than the size of the thickness of the polymer film, and the polymer film is sandwiched between the substrates at the groove section and is bonded to the substrates with a bonding agent.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
A device according to Claim 1, wherein the substrates are the ones through which visible radiation can pass.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
A device according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the substrates are molded bodies of plastic, glass or ceramics.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
A device according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the substrates are molded bodies of plastics or glass.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 37 words
A device according to any of the Claims 1 to 4, wherein the depth of the groove section defined between the two substrates is by 2 to 300 µm greater than the thickness of the polymer film.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 20 words
A device according to any of the Claims 1 to 5, wherein the groove is formed integrally with the substrate.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 27 words
A device according to any of the Claims 1 to 6, wherein the substrate having the groove is formed by uniting a planar molded body and spacers.
Claim 9
