Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 24
Claim 1
Independent Claim 55 words
An eye restraining device, comprising: means adapted to be secured against the sclera of an eye for positioning and aligning the eye, said positioning and aligning means being a ring-shaped means adapted to be in contact with the sclera of the eye for causing the cornea of the eye to project above the ring-shaped means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 55 words
An eye restraining device, comprising: means adapted to be secured against the sclera of an eye for positioning and aligning the eye, said positioning and aligning means being a ring-shaped means adapted to be in contact with the sclera of the eye for causing the cornea of the eye to project above the ring-shaped means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
The eye restraining device of claim 1 wherein said ring-shaped means has first and second substantially circular apertures, each of said apertures having a seating surface for engagement with said sclera.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
The eye restraining device of claim 2 wherein said first and second substantially circular apertures having first and second diameters respectively, with said second diameter being larger than said first diameter.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
The eye restraining device of claim 3 further including an arm element being integrally connected to and projecting outward from said ring-shaped member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
The eye restraining device of claim 4 wherein said arm element has a passageway extending therethrough and opening into a hollow annulus formed between said first and second substantially circular apertures.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 43 words
The eye restraining device of claim 5 wherein said ring-shaped structural means comprises: a first circular surface extending about the first circular aperture; and a second surface integrally connected to and extending substantially perpendicular from an outer edge of said first circular surface.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 37 words
The eye restraining device of claim 6 wherein said first and second seating surfaces form an angle of about 46 to about 56 degrees to a center-line extending through the center of said first and second apertures.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 22 words
The eye restraining device of claim 5 including handle means attached to said arm element for positioning said positioning and aligning means.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 21 words
The eye restraining device of claim 8 including means connected to said handle means for drawing a vacuum through said passageway.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 25 words
The eye restraining device of claim 9 including support means interfacing with said handle means for fixing the position of said positioning and aligning means.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 51 words
The eye restraining device of claim 10 wherein said handle means has a first flat surface constructed of a magnetizable material, said support means has a second flat surface and an electromagnet therein, and means for energizing said electromagnet whereby said handle means is clamped with respect to said support means.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 23 words
The eye restraining device of claim 11 including means connected to said support means for changing the elevation of said second flat surface.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 71 words
The eye restraining device of claim 1 further including a head restrain, comprising: a base plate; a support pad having recess adapted to accommodate a patient's head, said support pad being disposed against said base plate; a frame projecting outward from said base plate; and pad means supported in said frame for engaging a patient's head at a plurality of locations; said engaging means being adjustable to accommodate different sized heads.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 62 words
A head restraint, comprising: a base plate; a support pad having recess adapted to accommodate a patient's head, said support pad being disposed against said base plate; a frame projecting outward from said base plate; and pad means supported in said frame for engaging a patient's head at a plurality of locations; said engaging means being adjustable to accommodate different sized heads.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 62 words
A head restraint, comprising: a base plate; a support pad having recess adapted to accommodate a patient's head, said support pad being disposed against said base plate; a frame projecting outward from said base plate; and pad means supported in said frame for engaging a patient's head at a plurality of locations; said engaging means being adjustable to accommodate different sized heads.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 40 words
The head restraining device of claim 14 wherein said pad means includes a plurality of adjustable shafts projecting through said frame, each of said shafts having a resilient pad at one end for pressing against the head of a patient.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 20 words
The head restraining device of claim 15 including means for locking each of said adjustable shafts at a desired position.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 17 words
The head restraining device of claim 16 whereby said support pad is constructed of a resilient material.
Claim 20
Dependent Claim 38 words
The process of restraining a patient's eye, comprising the steps of: securing a ring-shaped element against the sclera of the eye whereby the cornea projects above the ring-shaped element; and positioning the ring-shaped element to align the eye.
Claim 21
Dependent Claim 38 words
The process of restraining a patient's eye, comprising the steps of: securing a ring-shaped element against the sclera of the eye whereby the cornea projects above the ring-shaped element; and positioning the ring-shaped element to align the eye.
Claim 22
Dependent Claim 15 words
The process of claim 18 including the step of restraining the head of the patient.
Claim 23
Dependent Claim 35 words
The process of claim 19 wherein said step of securing the ring-shaped element includes providing a vacuum in said ring-shaped element for generating a suction between said ring-shaped element and the sclera of said eye.
Claim 24
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process of claim 20 wherein the step of positioning the ring-shaped element includes the step of electromagnetically securing the ring-shaped element.
