Abstract

Abstract A homogeneous composition for road surfacing contains a bitumen for road use and a quantity of a mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers of up to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the bitumen, said mixture containing not less than 40% and up to 70% by weight of one or more polyolefins, the remaining percentage consisting essentially of polyvinylchloride, polyethylene terephthalate and polystyrene. This mixture of thermoplastic polymers can be obtained by recovering and recycling the plastics material contained in solid urban refuse or in industrial waste.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 65 words
A homogeneous composition for road surfacing containing a bitumen for road use and a quantity of a mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers of up to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the bitumen, said mixture containing not less than 40% and up to 70% by weight of one or more polyolefins, the remaining percentage consisting essentially of polyvinylchloride, polyethyleneterephthalate and polystyrene.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 65 words
A homogeneous composition for road surfacing containing a bitumen for road use and a quantity of a mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers of up to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the bitumen, said mixture containing not less than 40% and up to 70% by weight of one or more polyolefins, the remaining percentage consisting essentially of polyvinylchloride, polyethyleneterephthalate and polystyrene.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the polyolefin fraction of the mixture of the thermoplastic organic polymers is formed of high and/or low density polyethylene, or of said polyethylene with minor quantities of polypropylene.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 43 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers contains: 35-60% of polyethylene by weight, 5-10% of polypropylene by weight, 10-25% of polyvinylchloride by weight, 5-15% of polyethyleneterephthalate by weight and 5-10% of polystyrene by weight.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers is the product of the recovery and recycling of the plastics materials contained in solid urban refuse or in industrial waste.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 47 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said bitumen is a distilled or reconstituted bitumen with a penetration test value of between 40 and 200 dmm (by ASTM D-5) and a ring and ball test value of between 35°C and 60°C (by ASTM D-36).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 31 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1, characterised by containing from 0.5 to 20 parts by weight of the mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers per 100 parts by weight of bitumen.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 31 words
A composition as claimed in claim 6, characterised by containing from 5 to 8 parts by weight of said mixture of thermoplastic organic polymers per 100 parts by weight of bitumen.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 22 words
A bituminous mix characterised by containing the bituminous composition claimed in claims 1 to 7 in association with grit, sand and filler.
