Abstract

Abstract An electrostrictive device having a sealing structure of an electrostrict element has a tubular member for housing the electrostrictive element. A pair of lid members are attached to the top and bottom surfaces of the electrostrictive element. The lid members are flexibly combined to the tubular member by using an elastic sealing means such as silicone resin and O-ring. The side surfaces of the electrostrictive element is spaced apart from the inner wall of the tubular member due to the lid members. The foregoing structure enables a reliable hermetic seal without impairing the mechanical displacement of the electrostrictive element.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
An electrostrictive device having a sealing structure for an electrostrictive element comprising: a tubular member housing said electrostrictive element such that the inner wall of said tubular member is spaced apart from said electrostrictive element, a first lid member fixed to one end of said electrostrictive element, a second lid member fixed to the opposite end of said electrostrictive element, said first and second lid members being flexibly and air-tightly combined to said tubular member, respectively, by using elastic sealing means, and one of said first and second lid members having electrode terminals connected to said electrostrictive element.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 98 words
An electrostrictive device having a sealing structure for an electrostrictive element comprising: a tubular member housing said electrostrictive element such that the inner wall of said tubular member is spaced apart from said electrostrictive element, a first lid member fixed to one end of said electrostrictive element, a second lid member fixed to the opposite end of said electrostrictive element, said first and second lid members being flexibly and air-tightly combined to said tubular member, respectively, by using elastic sealing means, and one of said first and second lid members having electrode terminals connected to said electrostrictive element.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
An electrostrictive device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said sealing means is a elastic resin.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
An electrostrictive device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said sealing means is an O-ring, and each of said first and second lid member has a groove around the side edge portion, said groove has a depth smaller than a diameter of said O-ring.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
An electrostrictive device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said sealing structure further comprises insulative fluid filled within said tubular member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
A sealing structure for the electrostrictive element as claimed in claim 1, wherein said tubular member, first and second lid member are made of metal.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 159 words
An electrostrictive device having a sealing structure for an electrostrictive element comprising: a tubular member, an electrostrictive element located within said tubular member, a first lid member attached to one end of said electrostrictive element, a second lid member attached to the other end of said electrostrictive element, said tubular member having a length larger than the hight of said electrostrictive element but shorter than the total sum of said electrostrictive element attached with said first and second lid members, each of said first and second lid members having a diameter smaller than the inner diameter of said tubular member such that side edges of said first and second lid member are slidly contacted with the inner wall of said tubular member, one of said first and second lid members having a pair of electrode terminals connected to said electrostrictive member, and sealing means for sealing respective gaps formed between said tubular member and said first and second members.
