Abstract

Abstract A device for reading an optical recording medium having a clock track, a data track and a guideline for tracking. The device comprises an optical detector for receiving optical images from the clock track, data track and guideline for tracking, a clock detector circuit which receives signals from the clock track and produces clock signals, a data detector circuit which converts the data read from the data track into binary signals according to the clock signals and produces them, a focus error detecting circuit which detects focus error depending upon signals from the guideline for tracking, and a tracking error detector circuit for detecting tracking error. The optical detector is constituted by frist to fourth optical detector elements which receive optical images from the guideline for tracking, a fifth optical detector element which receives optical images from the clock track, and a sixth optical detector element which receives optical images from the data track. With the optical detector being constructed in a compact form, the reading device is also constructed in a small size and in a reduced weight.
