Oxygen concentration probe
Abstract
Abstract An oxygen concentration probe which measures an oxygen concentration in a solution or a gas in accordance with equation (1) below by utilizing extinction of light by oxygen, said light being generated by excitation of light through immobilization of a polypyridine metal complex. Namely, the invention provides an oxygen concentration probe which can be readily miniaturized and consists of immobilized polypyridine metal complex which can be prepared from an economical material for visible rays of light as a photoconductor or optical material since the excited light and emitted light are visible rays of light and can be used stably even when it is dipped directly into a solution, or the like, without any protective film such as an oxygen-permeable film. l o /l = 1 + K[O 2 ] (1), where 1 0 and I each represent the intensity of emitted light (with the proviso that 1 0 is the intensity of the emitted light when the oxygen concentration is substantially zero), K is a constant and [O 2 is an oxygen concentration. 1 0 and K are constants that are independent of the oxygen concentration of a sample.
