Abstract

Abstract A narrow aisle forklift truck (Figure 1) has a pivot between the mast and body and means for turning the mast relative to the body so as to steer the truck. The mast has a load extensor/retractor (28) between the forks (26) and the mast (24). This enables insertion and extraction in particularly narrow aisles relative to the dimensions of the truck and its load.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 85 words
A narrow aisle lift truck comprising a wheeled body and a wheeled mast carrier connected together by a pivot for relative angular movement about a generally vertical axis between the respective sets of wheels, and a carriage on the mast with load carrying means, characterised in that means are provided for extending and retracting said load carrying means relative to the mast, and in that the truck is arranged to be steered by causing relative movement of the body and mast carrier about said pivot.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 85 words
A narrow aisle lift truck comprising a wheeled body and a wheeled mast carrier connected together by a pivot for relative angular movement about a generally vertical axis between the respective sets of wheels, and a carriage on the mast with load carrying means, characterised in that means are provided for extending and retracting said load carrying means relative to the mast, and in that the truck is arranged to be steered by causing relative movement of the body and mast carrier about said pivot.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A truck as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the said means for extending and retracting the load carrying means is a linkage.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 39 words
A truck as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the wheeled mast carrier comprises side members having their wheels at their free ends and which project from the pivot for a distance less than that of the load carrying means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
A truck as claimed in Claim 3 wherein said side members are spaced apart by a gap wider than the load carrying means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
A truck as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the steering means comprise rams between the carrier and body.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
A truck as claimed in any of Claims 1-4 wherein the steering means comprise a gear system to turn the mast carrier relative to the body.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
A narrow aisle lift truck substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 19 words
A narrow aisle lift truck substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
