Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 86 words
A method for preparing a lubricated surface of a medical or diagnostic device comprising treating a polymeric surface with a plasma generated from a gas at a pressure of 0.1 to 100 torr to give a plasma-treated polymeric surface and applying thereto a film of a polysiloxane lubricant, characterized in that the lubricant has not been plasma-treated, said film having a surface tension substantially the same as or less than the surface energy of said plasma-treated surface, said film thereby fully wetting said plasma treated surface.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 29 words
The method in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said polymeric surface is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, polystyrene, polyvinylchloride, polytetrafluorethylene and fluorinated ethylene propylene polymer.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
The method in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said gas is selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, argon, neon, xenon, krypton and mixtures thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 55 words
The method in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said polysiloxane lubricant is a polydialkylsiloxane of the formula wherein R and R' may independently be an allyl group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms or are joined into a ring of 5 to 8 carbon atoms and n is an integer of from 1 to 2000.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
The method in accordance with Claim 4 wherein said polydialkylsiloxane is polydimethylsiloxane.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method in accordance with Claim 4 wherein said lubricant has a viscosity of about 10 to 100,000 centistokes.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the polymeric surface is a perfluorinated polymer and the plasma is generated by passing a radiofrequency discharge of 50 Kilohertz through argon gas.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 14 words
The method of any preceding claim, wherein the plasma is generated by glow discharge.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 16 words
The method of any preceding claim, wherein the medical device is a needle, syringe or catheter.
