Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 32
Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
A method for the production of solid cellulosic regenerated viscose staple fibre of multi-limbed cross section having at least three limbs in which viscose is extruded through multi-limbed extrusion holes having similar shapes to the shape of the filaments into a regenerating bath to regenerate cellulose filaments in which each limb of the filaments has an aspect ratio greater than 2:1 and which are then stretched, characterised in that after stretching the filaments are cut to form staple fibre which is then washed and dried and which staple fibre has a decitex in the range 0.5 to 5.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 17 words
A method as claimed in claim l further characterised in that the fibre is standard viscose fibre.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 37 words
A method as claimed in claim 2, further characterised in that the regenerating bath contains 0.5% to 2% by weight zinc sulphate, 60% to 20% by weight sulphuric acid and 10 to 28% by weight sodium sulphate.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 21 words
A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, further characterised in that the viscose incorporates a modifier.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
A method as claimed in claim 4, further characterised in that the modifier is a polyethylene glycol.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 31 words
A method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, further characterised in that each limb of the filaments has an aspect ratio in the range 2:1 to 7:1.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method as claimed in claim 6, further characterised in that each limb of the filaments has an aspect ratio in the range 3:1 to 5:1.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 26 words
A method according to any one of claims 1 to 7, further characterised in that the fibre has a decitex in the range 1.5 to 4.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 63 words
Cellulosic regenerated viscose staple fibre characterised in that it consists of a plurality of solid cut filaments each having a decitex in the range 0.5 to 5 and a multi-limbed cross-section having at least three limbs, each limb having a limb length-to-width aspect ratio in the range 2:1 to 10:1, and substantially all of the cut filaments having substantially the same cross-sectional shape.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 17 words
Staple fibre according to claim 9, further characterised in that the filaments have three or four limbs.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 25 words
Staple fibre according to claim 10, further characterised in that the filaments have three limbs disposed substantially at an angle of 120° to each other.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 26 words
Staple fibre according to any one of claims 9 to 11, further characterised in that the filaments have a decitex in the range 1.5 to 4.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 30 words
Staple fibre according to any one of claims 9 to 12, further characterised in that each limb of the filaments has an aspect ratio in the range 2:1 to 7:1.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 25 words
Staple fibre according to claim 13, further characterised in that each limb of the filaments has an aspect ratio in the range 3:1 to 5:1.
Claim 15

A tampon characterised in that it includes solid cellulosic regenerated viscose staple fibre as claimed in any one of claims 9 to 14.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 59 words
A tampon as claimed in claim 15, further characterised in that when manufactured as a longitudinally expanding tampon having a stability of approximately 15mm as measured by the 'expansion test' as hereinbefore defined, it has an absorbency of at least 4.3 grams 1% saline solution per gram of fibre as measured by a 'modified Syngina' test as hereinbefore defined.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 27 words
A tampon as claimed in claim 16, further characterised in that it has an absorbency of at least 4.5 grams 1% saline solution per gram of fibre.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 61 words
A tampon as claimed in claim 15, further characterised in that when manufactured as a radially expanding tampon having a stability of at least 3.2 daN as measured by the crush test as hereinbefore defined, it has an absorbency of at least 4.5 grams 1% saline solution per gram of fibre as measured by a 'modified Syngina' test as hereinbefore defined.
Claim 19
