Abstract

Abstract A child's seat (10) for a motor vehicle comprises a back portion (16) and a harness including two shoulder straps (20) each of which projects through a respective opening in the back portion (16). Each opening is formed by the interaction of an elongate slot (30, 32) formed in the back portion (16) and extending over the range of desired positions for the opening, with a horizontal slot (40, 42) in a carriage (38) mounted on the rear side of the back portion (16) for vertical sliding movement relative thereto. Manually operable control means (44) is arranged to vary the position of the carriage (38, 52) relative to the back portion (16).

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
A child's seat according to claim 1, wherein the elongate slots (30, 32) are inclined so that their upper ends are further apart than their lower ends.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 78 words
A child's seat according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the two horizontal slots (40, 42) are formed in the same component of the carriage (38, 52), each horizontal slot (40, 42) extending over the range of horizontal movement of the corresponding opening, the horizontal surfaces of the openings being defined by the walls of the horizontal slots (40, 42) and the vertical edges of the openings being defined by the edges of the elongate slots (30, 32).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 60 words
A child's seat according to claim 1 or 2, wherein each of the horizontal slots (60, 62) is of the same dimensions as the corresponding opening and is formed in a respective auxiliary carriage (56, 58) which is slideable horizontally relative to the main carriage (52) and coupled to guide means extending parallel to the corresponding elongate slot (30, 32).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 52 words
A child's seat according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the control means comprises a screw-threaded rod (44) journaled in a bearing (48) secured adjacent to the top edge of the rear surface of the seat back (16) and engaging in a tapped hole in the carriage (38, 52).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 96 words
