Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim
36 words
An ion-selective sensor, comprising a reference electrode and an ion-selective electrode, characterised in that a removable hydrophilic gel layer containing a known concentration of the selected ion bridges the analyte-contacting portions of the electrodes for calibration.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
36 words
An ion-selective sensor, comprising a reference electrode and an ion-selective electrode, characterised in that a removable hydrophilic gel layer containing a known concentration of the selected ion bridges the analyte-contacting portions of the electrodes for calibration.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
14 words
A sensor according to claim 1, wherein the sensor is a disposable strip sensor.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
13 words
A sensor according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the gel is hydrogel.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
16 words
A sensor according to any preceding claim, wherein ionic selectivity is conferred by an ion-selective membrane.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
23 words
A sensor according to claim 4, wherein the reference electrode has a protective, hydrophobic membrane containing a lipophilic salt of the relevant anion.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
16 words
A sensor according to claim 5, wherein the hydrophobic membrane is made from highly plasticised PVC.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
23 words
A sensor according to claim 4, 5 or 6, wherein a gel layer as defined in any preceding claim separates membrane and electrode.
Claim 9
Independent Claim
32 words
A method for calibrating a sensor as defined in any of claims 1 to 7, comprising taking a reading to calibrate the sensor prior to removal of the electrode bridging gel layer.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
13 words
A sensor as defined in claim 7, not having the removable gel layer.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
16 words
A sensor according to any of claims 1 to 7 or 9, for detecting potassium ion.
