Abstract

Abstract A power transmission system for a four-wheel drive vehicle has an automatic transmission (A) for transmitting power of an engine (E) to main driving wheels and a transfer clutch (10) for transmitting the power to auxiliary driving wheels. First and second vehicle speed sensors are provided for sensing vehicle speed dependent on the main driving wheels and the auxiliary driving wheels, respectively. A two-wheel drive switch (23) is provided for producing a two-wheel drive signal. The automatic transmission (A) uses an output signal of the first vehicle speed sensor (26) as a data representing driving conditions of the vehicle. In response to the two-wheel drive signal, the transfer clutch (10) is disengaged and an output signal of the second vehicle speed sensor (25) is selected as a vehicle speed.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 118 words
A power transmission system for a four-wheel drive vehicle powered by an engine comprising: a transmission for transmitting power of said engine to main driving wheels of said four-wheel drive vehicle; a transfer clutch for transmitting said power to auxiliary driving wheels; means for producing a vehicle speed signal from the output of a wheel speed sensor; characterised by: a first wheel speed sensor operating onto said main driving wheels, and a second wheel speed sensor operating on said auxiliary driving wheels; a two-wheel drive switch for producing a two-wheel drive signal; and control means responsive to said two-wheel drive signal for disengaging said transfer clutch and for selecting the output signal of said second vehicle speed sensor.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 118 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 14 words
A power transmission system according to claim 1 wherein said clutch is friction clutch.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
A power transmission system according to claim 1 wherein said transmission is an automatic transmission using the vehicle speed signal to the driving conditions of said vehicle
