Active flat type display panel

Abstract

Abstract This display panel has signal lines arranged in rows and columns which define picture elements of the display panel at their points of intersection, the lines arranged in columns being formed as electrodes and the signal lines arranged in rows being formed by optical wave- guides into the inputs of which a modulated optical signal is coupled and which exhibit at each point of intersection a device for coupling out the relevant optical signal. Compared with conventional active display panels in flat construction, the display panel according to the invention is distinguished, in particular, by good image resolution and a good contrast range combined with a good frame rate. <IMAGE>
