Fault-tolerant computing system and method for detecting, localising and eliminating failing units in such a system
Abstract
Abstract Translated from German 1. 1. Fault-tolerant computing system and method for detecting, locating and eliminating faulty units in such a system 2.1 In the case of a fault-tolerant computer system or method, the task is to identify errors with as little effort as possible, to determine the location of the fault and to separate system parts identified as faulty from the overall system, so that the overall system can continue to operate with full performance but reduced redundancy. In known fault-tolerant systems, a 2-out-of-3 or 3-out-of-4 majority decision is made, which requires at least three computers working in parallel. 2.2 With the invention it is proposed to provide a self-test with a combined mutual exchange of results and comparison of results if the results from two processors working in parallel do not match, a part of the user algorithm from which the correct result is known being used as the test algorithm, so that by comparison this a 2 out of 3 selection is made with the correct result with the two results from the test run and the faulty processor can be determined. 2.3 Fault-tolerant computing systems are used to automate technical processes.
