Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 51 words
A distributed feedback (DFB) laser provided with three or more electrodes disposed such that by control of the relative current flow through said electrodes the injected current profile in the distributed feedback region of the laser is adjustable to vary the frequency of the laser output independently of its optical amplitude.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 51 words
A distributed feedback (DFB) laser provided with three or more electrodes disposed such that by control of the relative current flow through said electrodes the injected current profile in the distributed feedback region of the laser is adjustable to vary the frequency of the laser output independently of its optical amplitude.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A DFB laser as claimed in claim 1, wherein one surface of the laser is provided with a longitudinally divided electrode structure.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
A DFB laser as claimed in claim 2, wherein said longitudinally divided electrode structure has electrically distinct component parts overlying regions of different optical propagation constants.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
A DFB laser as claimed in claim 3, wherein said regions of different optical propagation constants are created by changes in the thickness of one or more of semiconductive layers of which the laser is constructed.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 34 words
A DFB laser as claimed in claim 3, wherein said regions of different optical propagation constants are created by changes in composition of one or more semiconductive layers of which the laser is constructed.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 43 words
A DFB laser as claimed in claim 1, wherein one surface of the laser is provided with a transversely divided electrode structure electrically distinct component parts of which overlie regions of the distributed feedback grating of the laser having different configurations of pitch.
