Abstract

Abstract Luminescent alumino-silicate and/or alumino-borate glass comprising lanthanum and/or gadolinium and activated by Tb³⁺ and/or Ce³⁺ having a composition comprising 35-85 mol.% of SiO₂ and/or B₂O₃, 1-35 mol% of La₂O₃ and/or Gd₂O₃, 5-45 mol% of Al₂O₃ and 0.5-30 mol% of Tb₂O₃ and/or Ce₂O₃. The La₂O₃ and/or Gd₂O₃ may be replaced up to not more than 50 mol% by Y₂O₃, Sc₂O₃, Lu₂O₃ ZrO₂, P₂O₅ and/or alkaline earth metal oxides. The luminescent glass can be used in a luminescent screen, for example, the luminescent screen of a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp.
