Abstract

Abstract In such a support element, in which a web of material requiring to be de-watered is so treated over an extended pressing zone, the press surface of the supporting element (11) features several adjacent pressure pockets (15<0>, 15<1>, 15<2>) at right angles to the direction of travel (L) of the web, which are supplied with a hydraulic medium through associated pressure compartments (12<0>, 12<1>, 12<2>). The unequal de-watering in the region of the outer pressure pockets (15<1>, 15<2>) resulting from the greater flow of the hydraulic medium caused by the larger edge-portion of these pressure pockets is compensated by arranging that the pressure applied by the hydraulic medium is at least approximately the same in all the pressure pockets (15<0>, 15<1>, 15<2>). This can be achieved by applying a higher pressure in the outer pressure compartments (12<1>, 12<2>), by a smaller pressure area of the outer pressure pockets, by supporting the outer pressure pockets on pistons of greater cross-section or by connecting the outer pressure pockets to the associated pressure compartment with channels of greater cross-section. This regulation can be achieved by means of a control device (21) triggered by sensors for the pressure in the pressure compartments or by properties of the de-watered web. <IMAGE>
