Abstract

Abstract The invention provides a disposable diaper comprising a water-permeable topsheet (11), a water impermeable backsheet (12), a semi-rigid absorbent body (13) interposed between said topsheet and backsheet, water-impermeable flexible side flaps extending laterally outwardly from opposite sides of said absorbent body, at least one elastic band (22) extending longitudinally of each of said side flaps and adapted to form resilient gathers along each of said side flaps and fasteners disposed on opposite sides of one end of said diaper, characterised in that each of said side flaps comprises a first side flap (16) and a second side flap (17), said first side flap extending laterally outwardly from said absorbent body and said second side flap extending from said first side flap in a laterally divergent manner and in that at least one of said elastic bands is associated with each of said second side flaps and acts thereon to cause at least an edge portion thereof to be held over at least a central portion of the length thereof in a substantially upstanding position relative to the first side flap from which it extends.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 181 words
A disposable diaper comprising a water-permeable topsheet (11), a water impermeable backsheet (12), a semi-rigid absorbent body (13) interposed between said topsheet and backsheet, water-impermeable flexible side flaps extending laterally outwardly from opposite sides of said absorbent body, at least one elastic band (22) extending longitudinally of each of said side flaps and adapted to form resilient gathers along each of said side flaps and fasteners disposed on opposite sides of one end of said diaper, characterised in that each of said side flaps comprises a first side flap (16) and a second side flap (17), said first side flap extending laterally outwardly from said absorbent body and said second side flap extending from said first side flap in a laterally divergent manner and in that at least one of said elastic bands is associated with each of said second side flaps and acts thereon to cause at least an edge portion thereof to be held over at least a central portion of the length thereof in a substantially upstanding position relative to the first side flap from which it extends.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 181 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 131 words
A disposable diaper including a water-permeable topsheet (11), a water-impermeable backsheet (12), a semi-rigid absorbent body (13) interposed between said top and back sheets, water-impermeable side flaps (14) having a high flexibility, disposed on laterally opposite sides of said absorbent body, elastic bands (22) adapted to form elastic gathers extending longitudinally of said side flaps and tape fasteners (27) disposed on laterally opposite sides in a rear side area of the diaper, characterised in that each of said side flaps (14) includes a first flap (16) disposed outside said absorbent body and a second flap (17) diverged from said first side flap, having an associated one of said elastic bands incorporated therein and turned up under the elastic effect of said associated elastic band at least along a line of divergence.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 84 words
A disposable diaper as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that said second flap (17) has its longitudinal one side joined onto the upper side of said first flap (16), the other side directed outwards, of which longitudinally opposite ends fixed onto a front side area and a rear side area of the diaper and an intermediate portion rising upwards from a border line of the area over which said one side of the second flap is joined onto said first flap.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 58 words
A disposable diaper as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, characterised in that said second flap has its longitudinal one side joined onto the upper side of said first flap and the other side folded back outwards of which longitudinally opposite ends are fixed onto the front side area and the rear side area of the diaper.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 34 words
A disposable diaper as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that said second flap is made of a separate air-permeable and waterproof sheet different in nature from said first flap.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 44 words
A disposable diaper as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that said first flap and said second flap are formed from the respective portions of said topsheet and said backsheet extending outwardly from each outer edge of said absorbent body.
