Anhydrous organic electrolyte
Abstract
Galvanic high-energy cells with negative light metal electrodes (Li) often contain solvents as an electrolyte component, including ether, which have neighboring groups -0-, = CO or = N- activated C-H bonds and tend to form explosive peroxides. Stabilizer additives to the electrolyte in amounts of approx. 100 ppm, in addition to other alkyl-substituted phenols, in particular the substance 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol or easily oxidizable organosulfur or organophosphorus compounds such as trimethylphosphite prevent this process and make safe handling of the cells possible even under unusual operating conditions (e.g. long overcharge with high current).
