Abstract

Abstract A filtering device suitable for use in, for example, the papermaking industry has a generally-horizontal circular screen (7) onto which the liquid to be filtered flows from a tank (l) around the periphery of the screen. Solids filtered out of the liquid remain on the screen and are moved by a shower (l8) to an outlet (6) at the centre of the screen. The shower (l8) comprises several horizontal spray bars which extend radially across the screen and rotate about an axis at the centre of the screen. Each bar has a set of nozzles (l9), the locations of which are staggered with respect to the nozzle locations on the other bars. This ensures that the impact areas of one set of nozzles (l9) on the screen (7) do not follow the same paths over the screen as the preceding set of nozzles so that a more even coverage of the screen by the shower (l8) is achieved.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 68 words
A filtering device comprising a filter screen arranged to receive a liquid to be filtered and a plurality of nozzles positioned to direct a cleaning liquid at the screen and movable relative to the screen in succession to remove solids deposited on the screen from the liquid being filtered, the nozzles being so arranged that successive nozzle impact areas do not follow the same path(s) over the screen.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 68 words
A filtering device comprising a filter screen arranged to receive a liquid to be filtered and a plurality of nozzles positioned to direct a cleaning liquid at the screen and movable relative to the screen in succession to remove solids deposited on the screen from the liquid being filtered, the nozzles being so arranged that successive nozzle impact areas do not follow the same path(s) over the screen.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 89 words
A filtering device comprising a circular filter screen arranged to receive a liquid to be filtered and having an outlet for solids deposited on the screen from the liquid, and a plurality of nozzles rotatable in succession, relative to the screen, about an axis at the centre of the screen, the nozzles being positioned to direct a cleaning liquid at the screen to direct solids deposited thereon to the outlet and being so arranged that successive nozzle impact areas on the screen are displaced radially relative to the screen.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 89 words
A filtering device comprising a circular filter screen arranged to receive a liquid to be filtered and having an outlet for solids deposited on the screen from the liquid, and a plurality of nozzles rotatable in succession, relative to the screen, about an axis at the centre of the screen, the nozzles being positioned to direct a cleaning liquid at the screen to direct solids deposited thereon to the outlet and being so arranged that successive nozzle impact areas on the screen are displaced radially relative to the screen.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 38 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, including a plurality of support members each of which carries a plurality of nozzles and which are rotatable one after another about the said axis at the centre of the screen.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 41 words
A device as claimed in claim 3, in which the nozzles are so arranged on the support members that the impact areas of nozzles on one support member are displaced relative to the impact areas of nozzles on another support member.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 44 words
A device as claimed in claim 4, in which the nozzles on the said one support member are located at one set of distances from the said axis and the nozzles on the other support member are located at a different set of distances.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
A device as claimed in claim 4, in which the nozzles on the said one support member are located at one inclination to the screen and the nozzles on the other support member are located at another inclination.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 56 words
A device as claimed in claim 5, in which each support member comprises an inner portion which extends from the said axis and an outer portion in which the nozzles are located, the length of the inner portion of one support member being different from the length of the inner portion of the other support member.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 16 words
A device as claimed in claim 7, in which the inner portion is arcuate or angled.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 25 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 3 to 8, in which cleaning liquid is supplied to the nozzles through the support members.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 52 words
l0. A device as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 9, in which the screen has an upstanding peripheral wall and liquid to be filtered is supplied to the screen over the top of the wall from a surrounding tank, the solids outlet being at the centre of the screen.
Claim 13
Independent Claim 80 words
A method of filtering a liquid, comprising the steps of supplying the liquid to a filter screen; directing at least one jet of cleaning liquid at the screen and effecting relative movement between the jet(s) and the screen to cause the passage over the screen of a succession of jet impact areas and thereby to move solids deposited on the screen from the liquid being filtered, in which successive impact areas do not follow the same path over the screen.
Claim 14
Independent Claim 80 words
A method of filtering a liquid, comprising the steps of supplying the liquid to a filter screen; directing at least one jet of cleaning liquid at the screen and effecting relative movement between the jet(s) and the screen to cause the passage over the screen of a succession of jet impact areas and thereby to move solids deposited on the screen from the liquid being filtered, in which successive impact areas do not follow the same path over the screen.
Claim 15
Independent Claim 24 words
A method as claimed in claim ll, in which successive impact areas are displaced in a direction perpendicular to the direction of relative movement.
