Abstract

Abstract A label printer (1) is provided with a label cassette (10) containing an elongate label sheet (8). The label printer (1) is provided with a memory (43) for storing print parameters of label formats relative to print content and a parameter selection means (15) for detecting the state of each of a plurality of selection elements (13) incorporated in the label cassette which correspond to individual print parameters. The selection means (15) then selects print parameters conforming to the result of such detection. Thus, the mere loading of the label cassett (10) into the printer (1) prescribes the label format relative to the print content that corresponds to the loaded label cassette, thereby facilitating the selection of a desired label format.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 93 words
A label printer cassette (10) including an elongate label sheet .(8), said cassette being adapted to be reversably loaded into a label printer (1) said printer comprising a tackup mechanism (31) disposed in the printer to take up the label sheet (8) in said label cassette (10, and a printing unit (38) disposed in the printer for printing each label stuck onto said label sheet; characterised by a parameter selection means (12) including a plurality of selection elements (13) incorporated in said label cassette, said elements giving an indication of respective print parameters.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 93 words
A label printer cassette (10) including an elongate label sheet .(8), said cassette being adapted to be reversably loaded into a label printer (1) said printer comprising a tackup mechanism (31) disposed in the printer to take up the label sheet (8) in said label cassette (10, and a printing unit (38) disposed in the printer for printing each label stuck onto said label sheet; characterised by a parameter selection means (12) including a plurality of selection elements (13) incorporated in said label cassette, said elements giving an indication of respective print parameters.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 46 words
A label printer cassette according to claim 1 characterised in that the selection elements (13) are provided with means to change their light reflectivity whereby the reflectivity of a portion (14a. 14b) of said elements is optically detectable by a discriminator (15) associated therewith in use.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A label printer cassette according to claim 2 characterised in that the light reflectivity of said selection elements (13) is changed by the use of a slide plate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
A label printer cassette according to claim 1, characterized in that said selection elements (13) include a projectable member (27) and in that the indication of print parameter is a function of whether said member is projecting or not.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
A label printer according to claim 4 wherein the state of projection of said member (27) is detected by an optical or mechanical switch.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 74 words
A label printer including a cassette as claimed in any preceding claim characterised by a parameter selection means (15) capable of detecting the state of each said selection element (13) and selecting a print parameter conforming to the result of sad detection, thereby prescribing the desired label format for printing, and by a memory (43) incorporated in the printer (1) for storing, as a plurality of print parameters, label formats relative to print contents.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 108 words
A label printer according to claim'6 characterised in that said memory (43) has an area A for storing a binary signal corresponding to the output signal of said parameter selection means (15), an area B for storing the label formats as a plurality of print parameters, and an area C used as a data buffer so that the output signal of said parameter selection means (15) is converted into a binary signal in said area A, then the print parameter in said area B is selected on the basis of said binary signal, and the buffer relative to the selected label format is formed in said area C.
