Abstract

Abstract A combined cycle power plant comprising a gas turbine engine (22); a once-through boiler (26); means (70, 72) for effecting a flow of feedwater into the boiler; means (80, 102) for effecting a flow of exhaust gases from the gas turbine engine (22) through the boiler (26) to convert the feedwater to steam; and a steam turbine (28) connected to the boiler so as to receive a flow of the steam generated in the boiler to drive the turbine, is characterized in that the boiler (26) has hydraulically independent high and low pressure steam generating means (46, 50, 54), (48, 52, 56) connected to high and low pressure sections, respectively, of the steam turbine.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 107 words
A combined cycle power plant comprising a gas turbine engine (22); a once-through boiler (26); means (70,72) for effecting a flow of feedwater into the boiler; means (80,102) for effecting a flow of exhaust gases from the gas turbine engine (22) through the boiler (26) to convert the feedwater to steam; and a steam turbine (28) connected to the boiler so as to receive a flow of the steam generated in the boiler to drive the turbine; characterized in that the boiler (26) has hydraulically independent high and low pressure steam generating means (46,50,54), (48,52,56) connected to high and low pressure sections, respectively, of the steam turbine.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 107 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
A power plant according to claim 8, which has a single feedwater pump (70) for supplying feedwater to both the high pressure steam generating means (46,50,54) and the low pressure steam generating means (48,52,56) of the boiler (26).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 46 words
A power plant according to claim 1 or claim 2, which has condenser means (62) for condensing steam exhausted from the steam turbine (28) and a hot well (64) for receiving the condensate, the hot well (64) containing the feedwater inventory of the power plant (20).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
A power- plant according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein all components of the boiler (26) contactable by aqueous fluid are fabricated from corrosion resistant materials.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 72 words
A power plant according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the boiler (26) has a casing (38); a gas inlet and a gas outlet (40) at the lower and upper ends of the casing (38), respectively; and a plurality of independent, steam generating circuits (44) each comprising a single, sinuous low pressure tube with horizontal tube runs and a high pressure tube (46) internested with the low pressure tube (48).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 56 words
A power plant according to claim 5, which includes outlet headers (114,116) for receiving the steam generated in the high and low pressure tubes (46,48), the outlet headers (114,116) being enclosed in the boiler casing (38) whereby steam generated in the boiler (26) and escaping by leakage or rupture will be safely ducted from the casing.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 56 words
A power plant according to claim 5 or claim 6, which has first and second inlet headers (110,112) with which the inlets (50,52) of the high and low pressure tubes (46,48), respectively, communicate and orifice means (74) in flow circuit relationship between the pump (70) and the headers (110,112) for splitting the flow of feedwater therebetween.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 67 words
A power plant according to any one of claims 5 to 7, wherein there is an orifice means (122) at the inlet end (52,50) of the high and low pressure tubes (46,48) in the boiler (26) for creating a pressure drop at the inlet thereof which is sufficiently higher than the pressure drop across the remainder of the tube (46,48) to reduce flow instability in the tube.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
A power plant according to any one of claims 5 or 8, wherein the high and low pressure tubes (46,48) are equipped with solid, helical, external fins (78).
