Abstract

Abstract A transaction card is disclosed having a magnetic stripe emulator. The transaction card is adapted for use with presently available transaction terminals (10) that include a sensor (12) for reading a magnetic stripe. The card includes a transducer (26) for generating a varying magnetic field corresponding to information typically encoded on a magnetic stripe. In operation, a microprocessor (24) in the card extracts transaction data stored in a memory - (30,60) and supplies output signals to the transducer (26). The transducer (26) generates a varying magnetic field corresponding to the transaction information which is ready by the sensor (12) in the transaction terminal (10).
