Abstract

The reactor for carrying out heterogeneous, catalyzed chemical reactions consists of packing elements (3, 4) which consist of corrugated plates (25, 30) arranged parallel to the main flow axis of the reactor (1), the corrugation of which is inclined at an angle to the main flow axis and at adjacent ones Plates (25, 30) is directed in opposite directions, and wherein between adjacent plates (25, 30) at least one catalyst body (26, 27) is attached, which, following the wave troughs (25a) and wave crests (25b), alternately corrugated (26a) and non-corrugated sections (26b) such that the corrugated sections (26a) are each in a wave trough (25a) and the non-corrugated sections (26b) surround a wave crest (25b). The amplitude (a) of the individual corrugations (26c) within the corrugated sections (26a) increases towards the bottom (25c) of the associated wave trough (25a). The catalyst body (26, 27) has a very large catalyst area.
