Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim
11 words
A biomaterial comprising a composite material of an N-acylchitosan and collagen.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
11 words
A biomaterial comprising a composite material of an N-acylchitosan and collagen.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
26 words
A biomaterial as claimed in claim 1 wherein the N-acylchitosan is chitosan acylated at a proportion of at least 55 %, e.g. by acetylation or succinylation.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
53 words
A biomaterial as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the N-acylchitosan is obtained by modifying the amino groups of chitosan with at least one member selected from the group consisting of saturated or unsaturated fatty acids having 1 to 32 carbon atoms and dicarboxylic acids having 2 to 8 carbon atoms.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
46 words
A biomaterial as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the collagen is at least one member selected from the group consisting of collagen, atelocollagens and collagen derivatives obtained by chemically modifying collagen, e.g. acetylated collagen, succinylated collagen, methylated collagen and mixtures thereof.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
34 words
A biomaterial as claimed in any one of claims I to 4 wherein N-acychitosan is present at from 50 to 90% by weight, and collagen is present at from 10 to 50% by weight.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
41 words
A biomaterial as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5 which further contains at least one of the following; chondroitin, chondroitin-4 sulfuric acid; dermatan sulfate, chondroitin-6 sulfuric acid, hyaluronic acid, fibronectin, fibrin, epidermal growth factors and fibroblast growth factors.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
21 words
A biomaterial as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6 in the form of a film or a sponge.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
64 words
A process for the preparation of a biomaterial as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7 which comprises preparing a solution, dispersion or gel of the composite material, and then subjecting the solution, dispersion or gel to drying, e.g., by freeze drying or drying after coating a solution of the composite material onto a base material to form a film or membrane.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
20 words
A process as claimed in claim 8 wherein chemical modification of collagen is carried out after mixing N-acylchitosan and collagen.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
37 words
A process as claimed in claim 8, wherein chemical modification is carried out on the amino groups or carboxyl groups of collagen in a proportion of 5 to 100 % of the amino groups or carboxyl groups.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
33 words
A process as claimed in any one of claims 8 to 10 which further comprises treating the composite material with a bifunctional bridging agent or irradiating the same in order to effect bridging.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
36 words
The use of a biomaterial as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7, optionally in conjunction with another biomaterial, as an artificial skin, a wound dressing material, a vascular prosthesis or a hemostatic agent.
