Ultrasonic device and method for measuring the temperature of a fluid in an enclosed space
Abstract
Abstract An ultrasonic wave is transmitted from outside the vessel (10) and is propagated through the walls of the vessel and through the fluid (11) contained in the vessel. At a specific observation point outside the vessel, the wave (1) transmitted directly through the vessel and through the fluid, and the wave (2) transmitted after reflection, are detected. The time interval between the reception of the directly transmitted wave at the observation point and that of the wave transmitted after reflection is determined. The temperature of the fluid is deduced from the time interval, from the length of the path in the fluid and from a knowledge of the variation of the speed of sound in the fluid. Application especially to thermal monitoring of nuclear reactors.
