Abstract

Abstract The invention provides a method of assaying an antigen or antibody in a sample by bringing the antigen-or antibody-containing sample into contact with a support for agglutination reaction as sensitized with an antibody or antigen respectively correspond- ng to the antigen or antibody in said sample and jetermining the quantity of the resulting agglutinate precepitate, which comprises measuring the diam- eter of the precipitate by means of a one-dimen- sional image sensor capable of sensing, on a line passing the center of said agglutinate precipitate, the ntensity of the light from a light source after its passage through the agglutinate precipitate, and an apparatus for assaying an antigen or antibody in a sample by the above method.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 96 words
A method of quantitatively assaying an antigen or antibody in a sample by bringing the antigen-or antibody-containing sample into contact with a support for agglutination reaction as sensitized with an antibody or antigen respectively corresponding to the antigen or antibody in said sample and determining the quantity of the resulting agglutinate precipitate, which comprises measuring the diameter of the precipitate by means of a one-dimensional image sensor capable of sensing, on a line passing the center of said agglutinate precipitate, the intensity of the light from a light source after its passage through the agglutinate precipitate.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 54 words
The method of Claim 1, wherein the agglutinage precipitate diameter is measured in terms of the sensor output wave form width at a voltage intermediate between the standard voltage found with a negative control and the voltage found with the sample, the intermediate voltage being selected after comparison between the latter two voltage values.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 155 words
An apparatus for assaying an antigen or antibody in a sample by bringing the antigen-or antibody-containing sample into contact with a support for agglutination reaction as sensitized with an antibody or antigen respectively corresponding to the antigen or antibody in said sample and determining the quantity of the resulting agglutinate precipitate by measuring the diameter thereof, which comprises at least (a) a light source, (b) a means for passing the light from the light source through the sample vessel containing said agglutinate precipitate, (c) a means for measuring the diameter of said agglutinate precipitate by means of a one-dimensional image sensor capable of continuously sensing, on a line passing the center of said agglutinate precipitate within the sample vessel, the intensity of the light from said light source, and (d) a means for calculating the size of said agglutinate precipitate by operation treatment of the value as measured by means (c) for evaluation and judgement.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 54 words
The apparatus of 'Claim 3, wherein the agglutinate precipitate diameter is measured in terms of the sensor output wave form width at a voltage intermediate between the standard voltage found with a negative control and the voltage found with the sample, the intermediate voltage being selected after comparison between the latter two voltage values.
