Method for testing and treating stored fuel
Abstract
A method of testing and treating distillate fuel stored for long periods of time for use in emergency power generation and the like. The method consists in measuring the percentage of transmittance of a fuel sample with ultraviolet light before and after heating the distillate fuel, at a predetermined temperature below the boiling point, for a period of time sufficient to accelerate the polymerization, the sample reaching the predetermined temperature in about five minutes; the percent transmittance measurements are then compared to determine whether the fuel is suitable for continuous storage with or without the subsequent addition of polymerization inhibitors and / or depolymerizers.
