Abstract

End-capped alkyl polyethylene glycol ethers as the only surfactant component in low-foam rinse aid. means according to the general formula with R '= alkyl or alkenyl-C ( 8-18 ), n = 7 to 16 (9 to 12), R 2 = alkyl-C ( 1-4 ), preferably n-butyl in amounts of up to 80 wt .-% used in aqueous solution, wherein part of the water can be replaced by solubilizing or hydrotropic substances. It is advantageous to add 0 to 40% by weight of complexing agents such as citric acid, tartaric acid, glycolic acid or technical mixtures of succinic acid, glutaric acid and adipic acid as well as complexing agents with a threshold effect, preferably 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (0 to 10% by weight). If necessary, addition of end-capped alkyl polyethylene glycol ethers of the general formula R 1 - O - (CH 2 CH 2 O) m - R 2 (II) with R 'and R 2 as for (I) and m = 17 to 23 (18 to 20). Production of (I) and (II): alkanols and alkenols (C 8 18 ) are in a molar ratio of 1: 7 to 1:16 (1: 9 to 1:12) or in a molar ratio of 1:17 to 1:23 (1st : 18 to 1: 20) ethoxylated in the presence of alkaline catalysts, the free hydroxyl groups then etherified in excess with C 4-8 alkyl halides and the product dissolved in water. Advantage: Low-foaming, biodegradable rinse aid with good drainage and clear drying effects and high wetting capacity.
