Abstract

Abstract A method of cleaning an exhaust gas containing as a toxic component at least one of arsine, phosphine, diborane and hydrogen selenide, comprises contacting the gas with a molded, particulate cleaning agent comprising (1) cupric oxide and (2) at least one of silicone oxide, aluminum oxide and zinc oxide. The agent has a density of from 1.5 to 3.5 g ml and a metal atomic ratio M/(M + Cu) of from 0.02 to 0.7, wherein Cu represents the number of gram atoms of copper and M represents the total number of gram atoms of silicon, aluminum and/or sinc.

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 110 words
A method of cleaning an exhaust gas containing as a toxic component at least one of arsine, phosphine, diborane and hydrogen selenide, which comprises contacting the gas with a cleaning agent, characterised in that the cleaning agent is a molded cleaning agent comprising (1) cupric oxide and (2) at least one metal oxide selected from silicon oxide, aluminum oxide and zinc oxide, the agent having a density of from 1.5 to 3.5 g/ml and a metal atomic ratio M/(M + Cu) of from 0.02 to 0.7, wherein Cu represents the number of gram atoms of copper and M represents the total number of gram atoms of silicon, aluminum and/or zinc.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said cupric oxide is obtained by calcining a basic copper carbonate.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 39 words
A method as claimed in Claim 2, wherein said cupric oxide is obtained by drying and calcining a basic copper carbonate produced by the reaction of a copper salt with an alkali metal -carbonate or an alkali metal bicarbonate.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 25 words
A method as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein said metal atomic ratio M/(M + Cu) is in the range of from 0.03 to 0.55.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 28 words
A method as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the exhaust gas is contacted with said agent by passing the gas through a column filled with said agent.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 64 words
A method as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the exhaust gas is contacted with said agent while maintaining an operational parameter y in the range of wherein y = axb in which a represents a superficial linear velocity (cm/sec) of the exhaust gas passed through the column and b represents the concentration (vol%) of said toxic components in the exhaust gas to be cleansed.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 24 words
A method as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the exhaust gas is contacted with said agent at an inlet gas temperature below 200°C.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 101 words
A cleaning agent for exhaust gases containing as a toxic component at least one of arsine, phosphine, diborane and hydrogen selenide, characterised in that the cleaning agent is a molded, particulate cleaning agent comprising (1) cupric oxide and (2) at least one metal oxide selected from silicon oxide, aluminum oxide and zinc oxide, the agent having a density of from 1.5 to 3.5 g/ml and a metal atomic ratio M/(M + Cu) of from 0.02 to 0.7, wherein Cu represents the number of gram atoms of copper and M represents the total number of gram atoms of silicon, aluminum and/or zinc.
Claim 10
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 15 words
