Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 54 words
A coated cemented carbide comprising a substrate of a cemented carbide having a multilayer surface coating comprising an innermost layer, in contact with the substrate, constituted by titanium nitride to a thickness of between 0.1 and 1 microns, and at least one further layer comprising any of titanium carbide, titanium nitride and titanium carbonitride.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 54 words
A coated cemented carbide comprising a substrate of a cemented carbide having a multilayer surface coating comprising an innermost layer, in contact with the substrate, constituted by titanium nitride to a thickness of between 0.1 and 1 microns, and at least one further layer comprising any of titanium carbide, titanium nitride and titanium carbonitride.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 39 words
A coated cemented carbide according to claim 1 wherein the multilayer coating comprises a second layer of titanium carbide or titanium carbonitride in contact with the said innermost layer, the second layer being between 0.5 and 5 microns thick.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 30 words
A coated cemented carbide according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the multilayer coating comprises an outermost layer of titanium nitride having a thickness between 0.3 and 5 microns.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
A coated cemented carbide according to any foregoing claim, wherein the total thickness of the multilayer is between 1 and 10 microns.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
A coated cemented carbide according to claim 1, wherein the multilayer coating is a three layer coating of which the intermediate layer is titanium carbide and the outermost layer is titanium carbonitride.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 33 words
A coated cemented carbide according to claim 1 , wherein the multilayer coating is a three layer coating of which the intermediate layer is titanium carbide and the outermost layer is titanium nitride.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 37 words
A coated cemented carbide according to claim 1 , wherein the multilayer coating is a three layer coating of which the intermediate layer is titanium carbonitride and the outermost layer is either titanium carbide or titanium nitride.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 38 words
A coated cemented carbide according to claim 1 , wherein the multilayer coating is a four layer coating of which the outermost layer is titanium nitride and the two intermediate layers are of titanium carbide and titanium carbonitride.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 25 words
A coated cemented carbide according to any of claims 5 to 8 wherein the total thickness of the multilayer is between 1 and 10 microns.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 43 words
A method of coating a cemented carbide comprising depositing a multilayer coating on a substrate of the cemented carbide, characterised in that the innermost layer of the multilayer coating is provided by depositing, by physical vapour deposition, a thin layer of titanium nitride.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 43 words
A method of coating a cemented carbide comprising depositing a multilayer coating on a substrate of the cemented carbide, characterised in that the innermost layer of the multilayer coating is provided by depositing, by physical vapour deposition, a thin layer of titanium nitride.
