Abstract

Abstract Independent reagent matrix zones are created in hydrophobic open celled natural or synthetic material by heating the open celled material along parallel lines at right angles to the length of a reagent test device so as to seal the material at predetermined intervals and thereby form separate reagent matrix areas on the same reagent test device. This technique results in a reagent test device which eliminates the runover probiem which has caused cross contamination between reagent areas and resulted in the failure of reagent test devices to perform properly.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 58 words
Reagent test device comprising multiple reagent carrier matrices in spaced relationship one to the other, wherein the individual reagent carrier matrices are formed by heat sealing open celled natural or synthetic material so as to close cell openings along selected positions of the reagent test device to thereby create individual matrix areas which are isolated from each other.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 58 words
Reagent test device comprising multiple reagent carrier matrices in spaced relationship one to the other, wherein the individual reagent carrier matrices are formed by heat sealing open celled natural or synthetic material so as to close cell openings along selected positions of the reagent test device to thereby create individual matrix areas which are isolated from each other.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
2 , The reagent test device of Claim 1 in which the open celled material is selected from hydrophobic polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, cellulose acetate or polystyrene.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
The reagent test device of any of Claims 1 and 2 in which pore size of the open celled material is between 0.5 and 100 microns.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
The reagent test device of any of Claims 1 to 3 in which the thickness of the open celled material is between 50 and 1,000 microns.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 72 words
Process of forming reagent test device from hydrophobic open celled natural or synthetic material having a thickness of 50 to 1,000 microns in which the pore size of the open cells is between 0.5 and 100 microns by heating the hydrophobic open celled material along parallel lines perpendicular to the length of the test device to close the cells where heat is applied and thereby seal one reagent matrix area from another.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 72 words
Process of forming reagent test device from hydrophobic open celled natural or synthetic material having a thickness of 50 to 1,000 microns in which the pore size of the open cells is between 0.5 and 100 microns by heating the hydrophobic open celled material along parallel lines perpendicular to the length of the test device to close the cells where heat is applied and thereby seal one reagent matrix area from another.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
6 . The process of Claim 5 in which ultrasonics is used to heat the hydrophobic open celled material and seal one matrix area from another.
