Abstract

The facsimile machine is intended for fast transmission of facsimile copies in accordance with a redundancy-reducing code. It contains a coding / decoding stage (CD) which contains a control unit (ST), a buffer (ZS) and a microcomputer (MR). The control unit (ST) is constructed using a read-only memory controller (FS) and, when a remote copy is sent, determines the neighborhood relationships between two adjacent lines from image signals (B1) generated by a scanner (AB) and sends corresponding line signals (L1) to the buffer (ZS ). A microcomputer (MR). who also has access to the buffer (ZS), assigns the line signals (L2) according to the known MRC code code words (C) and outputs them via a transmission unit (ME). When a remote copy is received, the microcomputer (MR) assigns the received code words (C4) the line signals (L3), which are converted into image signals (B4) by the control unit (ST) and output to a printing unit (DR). A variety of components in the coding / decoding stage (CD) are used in both coding and decoding.
