Abstract

Abstract An ink applying and doctoring part of a pad printing machine for a printing plate disposed within an ink tray, in which the printing plate and a doctor blade are mounted for relative rotational movement to perform doctoring of the plate, either in a stepwise manner each time in the same direction of rotation or in a back-and-forth manner. In the first case, the doctor blade should define a closed area within which the design to be printed may lie, whereas in the second case two doctor blades may be provided either one of which may come into contact with the printing plate dependent upon the sense of rotation during the back-and-forth rotational movement A cover for the ink tray is provided so as to minimise evaporation of ink components and to prevent contamination of the ink, the cover being dosed except for a port through which the printing pad may pass to contact the printing plate. Ink within the tray may cover the printing plate so as to obviate the need for a distinct ink applying step.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 111 words
An inking and doctoring process for a pad printing machine in which ink is applied to a design provided on a printing plate, the plate is then doctored and then ink is picked up from the recessed parts of the printing plate by means of a pad provided as a part of the printing machine, which process is characterised by the cyclic performance of a first step of relatively rotating the printing plate and a doctor blade to effect the doctoring of the plate, and a second step of picking up the ink by the printing machine pad while the doctor blade is at least substantially in a state of rest
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 111 words
An inking and doctoring process for a pad printing machine in which ink is applied to a design provided on a printing plate, the plate is then doctored and then ink is picked up from the recessed parts of the printing plate by means of a pad provided as a part of the printing machine, which process is characterised by the cyclic performance of a first step of relatively rotating the printing plate and a doctor blade to effect the doctoring of the plate, and a second step of picking up the ink by the printing machine pad while the doctor blade is at least substantially in a state of rest
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
An inking and doctoring process according to claim 1, further characterised in that the relative rotation between the printing plate and the doctor blade is performed stepwise with the relative rotation each time being in the same sense, preferably with the doctor blade maintained fixed and the printing plate rotated stepwise of the doctor blade.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
A inking and doctoring process according to claim 1, further characterised in that the relative rotation between the printing plate and the doctor blade is performed in a back-and-forth manner, preferably with the printing plate maintained stationary and the doctor Wade rotated relative to the printing plate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 46 words
An inking and doctoring process according to any of the preceding claims, further characterised in that each cycle includes a third step during which no relative movement between the printing plate and the doctor blade takes place, and the ink on the printing plate is refreshed.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
An inking and doctoring process according to any of claim 1 to 4 further characterised in that ink in the ink tray covers the printing plate other than where doctoring has taken place.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 85 words
An inking and doctoring arrangement for a pad printing machine including an ink tray in which is mounted a printing plate and a doctor blade arranged to scrape ink off the upper surface of the printing plate, characterised in that there is provided a drive device adapted to cause relative rotational movement between the printing plate and the doctor blade to effect doctoring of the plate, and in that an ink tray cover is disposed over the ink tray to minimise evaporation of ink components.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 85 words
An inking and doctoring arrangement for a pad printing machine including an ink tray in which is mounted a printing plate and a doctor blade arranged to scrape ink off the upper surface of the printing plate, characterised in that there is provided a drive device adapted to cause relative rotational movement between the printing plate and the doctor blade to effect doctoring of the plate, and in that an ink tray cover is disposed over the ink tray to minimise evaporation of ink components.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 58 words
An inking and doctoring arrangement according to claim 6, further characterised in that the doctor blade is mounted on a fixed part and the drive device is arranged to cause the ink tray and printing plate there to rotate preferably in a stepwise manner each time in the same sense thereby to perform doctoring of the printing plate.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 51 words
An inking and doctoring arrangement acxording to claim 6 or claim 7, characterised in that the doctor blade is shaped to define a closed area within which a design on the printing plate to be printed may be caused to lie upon relative rotation between the printing plate and doctor blade.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 48 words
An inking and doctoring arrangement acxording to claim 6, further characterised in that the ink tray and printing plate are mounted on a fixed part and the drive device adapted to cause the doctor blade to move relative to the printing plate, preferably in a back-and-forth rotational manner.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 44 words
1 0. An inking and printing arrangement according to claim 6 or claim 8, characterised in that two doctor blades are provided, arranged alternately to contact the printing plate depending upon the sense of relative movement between the doctor blades and the printing plate.
