Abstract
Abstract A novel 4-substituted-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic acid anhydride represented by the structural formula (I): where R', R 2 , R 3 each represents one element selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, a lower alkyl and a lower alkoxy group and R', R 2 and R 3 may be identical with or different from each other, excepting the case where R', R 2 and R 3 are lower alkyl groups simultaneously and a process for producing the same. The novel compound is useful as coupling agents, plasticizers, curing agents, etc.

(4) The process for producing the 4-substituted-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic acid anhydride as defined in claim 1, wherein 2-(lower trialkoxy)silyl-1,3-butadiene, wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 in the structural formula [II] as described above are lower alkyl groups and represented by the following structural formula [II-a]: where R represents a lower alkyl groups, is reacted with maleic acid anhydride to form a 4-(lower alkoxy)silyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic acid anhydride represented by the following structural formula [I-a]: where R has the same meaning as described above.
