Abstract

Abstract A window shuttering mechanism for a cassette (1) has a shutter (8) to cover or expose a window (7) through which a recording medium of the cassette (11) is accessed. A lock pawl (12) on the shutter (8) co-operates with a recess (14) in a springy lever (13) to hold the shutter in its closed position in which the window (7) is covered. When the cassette is inserted into a player a lock release (20) presses the lever (13) to release the pawl (12) from the recess (14) but before it does so a tongue (25) of a pivoted resilient shutter closer (21) is pressed into an engagement aperture (31) in the shutter (8) due to the opposite end (28) of the shutter closer (21) being engaged by a face (30) of the cassette (1). The tongue (25) engaged in the engagement aperture (31) pulls the shutter (8) to the closed position when the cassette (1) is ejected from the player.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 148 words
A shuttering mechanism for a cassette (1), comprising: (a) a shutter (8) for covering and exposing a window (7) through which a recording medium of the cassette (1) is accessed; (b) first means (12, 14) for holding the shutter (8) in its closed position in which the window (7) is covered; (c) second means (20) for releasing the shutter (8) held by the first means (12) from its closed position when the cassette (1) is inserted into cassette recording/playback apparatus; characterised by:- (d) third means (21, 25, 28) for generating and storing a biasing force as the cassette (1) is inserted into the cassette recording/playback apparatus and engaging the shutter (8) immediately before the second means (20) releases the shutter (8) from its closed position through exertion of the stored biasing force to move the shutter (8) to expose the window (7) upon insertion movement of the cassette.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 148 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
A shuttering mechanism according to claim 1, wherein the first means comprises a lock pawl (12) formed on the shutter (8) and a cutout (14) in one end of a shutter lock lever (13) pivotally mounted on the cassette (1) and for receiving the lock pawl (12).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 51 words
A shuttering mechanism according to claim 2, wherein the second means comprises a projection (20) formed on the cassette holder (17) for pressing the shutter lock lever (13) so as to disengage the lock pawl (12) from the cutout (14) when the cassette (1) is inserted into the cassette holder (17).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 112 words
A shuttering mechanism according to claim 3, wherein the third means comprises an engagement aperture (31) formed in the shutter (8) end a shutter closer (21) pivotally mounted in the cassette holder (17) and having a first end (25) to engage in engagement aperture (31), a second end (28) thereof being pressed against the cassette (1) as the cassette (1) is inserted into the cassette holder (17) so as to exert said stored biasing force biasing the first end (25) toward the cassette (1) so that the first end (25) engages in the engagement aperture (31) of the shutter (8) immediately before the lock pawl (12) is disengaged from the cutout (14).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
A shuttering mechanism according to claim 4, wherein the shutter closer (21) is resiliently deformable.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
A shuttering mechanism according to claim 4 or claim 5, wherein the first end of the shutter closer (21) has a triangular shaped tongue (25) projecting toward the cassette (1).
