Abstract

Abstract 57 The instrument comprises an outer cylindrical body (3) leading off at one end (3a) to a biopsy cannula (5), and a piston (4) slidably engaged within said outer cylindrical body (3) with which it defines a suction chamber (10). The piston carries, at one end, a stylet (6) engaging with play inside said biopsy cannula (5) and is provided with a grip member (15) which slidably engages into a pair of longitudinal guides (13, 14) obtained in the outer cylindrical body (3), a stroke-limiting member (31) being disposed in an adjustable position on said outer cylindrical body (3).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 169 words
An instrument for carrying out biopsies on tissues removed from organs to be examined, of the kind including a syringe (2) essentially consisting of an outer cylindrical body (3) leading off, at one end (3b) to a biopsy cannula (5) and of a piston (4) slidably engaged within said outer cylindrical body (3) with which it defines a suction chamber (10) and carrying, at one end, a stylet (6) engaging with play inside said biopsy cannula (5), characterized in that it comprises a pair of opposite longitudinal guides (13, 14) obtained in the outer cylindrical body (3), a grip member (15) for the piston (4), which slidably engages within said guides (13, 14), a stroke-limiting member (32) disposed in an adjustable position on the outer cylindrical body (3) and designed for abutting against said piston's grip member (15), said stylet (6) consisting of a hollow needle defining an air path (8) leading off to the inside of the suction chamber (10) through one slit (9) provided inside the piston.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 169 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 63 words
An instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that on the outer cylindrical body (3), in the region of the initial portion of the suction chamber (10), a seat (23) is provided for accommodating an air intake valve (24) susceptible of being opened, after the tissue abstraction has been performed, in order to facilitate the ejection of said tissue from the syringe (2).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 68 words
An instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that said grip member (15) comprises a pair of opposite projections (16, 17) carried by said piston (4) and slidably engaging into said guides (13, 14), an annular support (18) integrally connected to said projections and surrounding the outer cylindrical body of the syringe and a pair of opposite grip rings (19, 20) integrally carried by said annular support (18).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 40 words
An instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that said stroke-limiting member (31) comprises an inwardly threaded ring (32) susceptible of bein g screwed on a corresponding thread (33) obtained on the outer surface of said outer cylindrical body (3).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 44 words
An instrument according to claim 4, characterized in that a graduated scale (34) is provided along the thread (33) of said outer cylindrical body, said scale being adapted to indicate the maximum volume defined, according to the various operating circumstances, inside the intake chamber.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 33 words
An instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the end of said outer cylindrical body opposite the one carrying the cannula (5) is closed and carries a grip ring (21) integral thereto.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 63 words
An instrument according to claim 2, characterized in that said valve (24) comprises a cylindrical body (26) sealingly insertable into said valve seat (23), a through hole (28) being provided in said cylindrical body (26) which hole, when the valve is in its opening condition, is brought into communication with a duct (25) for the introduction of air into the suction chamber (10).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 23 words
An instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that said stylet (6) consists of a hollow needle provided with a three-side sharpened point.
