Abstract

Abstract A tracking apparatus applicable to a rotatable magnetic recording medium (10) which is provided with a plurality of discrete tracks thereon includes a head (26) for sensing signals out of the tracks, a head transport mechanism (28, 30, 50) for moving the head (26) to a position on a desired one of the tracks, an envelope detector (38, 44, 46) for detecting an envelope of signals sensed by the head (26), and a controller (60) for performing tracking by controlling the head transport mechanism (28, 30, 50) responsive to the detected envelope. A sync signal generator circuit (22, 24) is provided for producing a reference signal which is synchronous to the rotation of the recording medium (10). The controller (60) controls the head transport mechanism (28, 30, 50) and causes the envelope detector (38, 44, 46) to detect an envelope, responsive to the reference signal.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 164 words
A tracking apparatus for a rotary magnetic recording medium comprising: magnetic head means (26) for sensing signals out of a plurality of tracks, each track being provided on the recording medium (10) in such a locus that a beginning and an end of recording thereof coincide with each other in relative position; head transport means (28, 30, 50) for transporting said head means (26) to a desired one of the tracks; detector means (38, 44, 46) for detecting an envelope of signals sensed out by said head means (26); and control means (60) for performing tracking by controlling said head transport means (28, 30, 50) responsive to the detected envelope; CHARACTERIZED BY sync signal producing means (22, 24) for producing a reference signal which is synchronous to rotation of the recording medium (10); said control means (60) being responsive to the reference signal to control said head transport means (28, 30, 50) and cause said detector means (38, 44, 46) to detect an envelope.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 164 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 73 words
A tracking apparatus in accordance with claim 1, wherein the recording medium (10) is provided with a timing mark (23), CHARACTERIZED IN THAT said sync signal producing means (22, 24) sensing the timing mark (23) to produce the reference signal, said control means (60) controlling said head transport means (28, 30, 50) and causing said detector means (38, 44, 46) to detect an envelope, at a predetermined timing relative to the reference signal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 46 words
A tracking apparatus in accordance with claim 2, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT said rotary recording medium (10) is a magnetic recording disk having a track on which recorded is a field of the video signals including luminance, chrominance and synchronizing signals formed in a raster scanning fashion.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 60 words
A tracking apparatus in accordance with claim 3, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT the synchronizing signal includes a vertical synchronous signal recorded on the disk (10) with a delay of 7Hs of the raster scanning with respect to the reference signal with allowance of ±5Hs thereto, the predetermined timing being set with a delay of 15Hs with respect to the reference signal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 44 words
A tracking apparatus in accordance with claim 3, wherein the video signals are recorded on the disk (10) in frequency modulation, CHARACTERIZED BY reproducing means (36) for receiving the video signals sensed by said head means (26) to demodulate and develop the video signals.
