Abstract

Abstract A cooking arrangement includes a heating unit (1) supported adjacent the underside of a glass ceramic, pan-supportive layer (9) on an upstanding pedestal (7) connected at its base to an outer casing (10), to provide a compact and portable cooking hob. The unit (1) may also include leaf springs (15, 16) to bias the unit (1) towards the underside of glass ceramic layer (9). The heating unit (1) includes three tubular quartz-halogen lamps (4, 5, 6) sandwiched between a disc-shaped layer (3) of thermally-insulative and partially infra-red reflective material and the underside of the glass ceramic layer (9). A switching arrangement is provided to switch the lamp filaments into various series and/or parallel configurations to produce discrete power outputs of the unit (1).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 99 words
A cooking arrangement comprising a pan supportive layer (9) of infra-red-transmissive material, at least one discrete region of said layer (9) being arranged to be heated by a beating unit (1), said heating unit (1) including at least one generally tubular infra-red lamp (4, 5, 6) disposed in between a thermally-insulative layer (3) and the underside of said pan supportive layer (9), characterised in that said heating unit (1) is supported adjacent the underside of said pan supportive layer (9) by a pedestal (7), said pedestal (7) forming at least part of a base structure of said cooking arrangement.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 99 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
An arrangement as claimed in Claim 1 and including resilient means (15, 16) for biassing the heating unit (1) towards the underside of said pan supportive layer (9).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
An arrangement as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 wherein apertures (13, 14) are provided in said base structure to permit air convection through said arrangement.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
An arrangement as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3 wherein apertures (11, 12) are provided in a casing (10) for said arrangement to permit air convection through said arrangement.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
An arrangement as claimed in Claim 4 wherein said casing (10) is connected to the base of said pedestal (7).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 60 words
An arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said heating unit (1) includes two or more infra-red lamps (4, 5, 6) and a control arrangement is provided to switch respective filaments (17, 18, 19) of said lamps (4, 5, 6) into a number of series and/or parallel configurations to provide discrete power outputs of said heating unit (1) .
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
An arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said infra-red lamp or lamps (4) each consists of a tungsten filament (17) supported within a halogenated quartz envelope (20).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
An arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said infra-red lamp or lamps (4) are curved into a serpentine configuration.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 30 words
An arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said thermally-insulative layer (3) is at least partially reflective of infra-red radiation emitted from said lamp or lamps (4, 5, 6).
