Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 185 words
A vehicle drive system including: a source of rotational energy; a flywheel; first variable displacement hydrostatic means; second variable displacement hydrostatic means; differential gear means comprising a first drive terminal, a second drive terminal and a third drive terminal; and including: means for selectable coupling of said first and second variable displacement hydrostatic means and said source of rotational energy and said flywheel to drive wheels of a vehicle; and including first means for coupling in a first mode of operation (1)said flywheel and said source of rotational energy to said first drive terminal; (2)said second drive terminal to said first variable displacement hydrostatic means; (3)said third drive terminal to said drive wheels; second means for coupling in a second mode of operation (1)said flywheel to said third drive terminal; (2)said engine and said first drive terminal to said drive wheels; relief valve means operable between said first and second variable displacement hydrostatic means; control means operative in response to demands of the driver to adjust the displacement of said first and said second variable displacement hydrostatic means to obtain a predetermined output drive torque.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 185 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 48 words
A vehicle drive system according to claim 1 wherein, said first means and said second means comprise clutch means and control means, said control means operative in response to a condition of synchronization so that transitions between said first and said second modes of operation occur substantially synchronously.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
A vehicle drive system according to claim 2 wherein said drive system also comprises a primary means for coupling in a primary mode of operation (l)said second drive terminal to said drive wheels.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 49 words
A vehicle drive system according to claim 3 wherein, said primary means and said first means comprise clutch means and control means, said control means operative in response to a condition of synchronization so that transitions between said primary means and said first means of operation occur substantially synchronously.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 61 words
A vehicle drive system according to claim 1 or claim 3 and including a power-take-off drive system, said power-take-off being driven by said flywheel or by said engine, depending upon the operating speed of said flywheel or said engine, wherein the overall speed variation of said power-take-off is substantially less than the overall speed variation of said engine and said flywheel.
