Abstract

Abstract A fibre optic cable which is completely free from metallic elements, and where all layers and elements of the cable including those formechanical and fire protection of the cable have the same or substantially the same thermal coefficient of expansion as the optical fibres. The fibre optic cable core (2,3,4) is protected against flames by at least two layers of rpica (5, 7) separated by a layer of synthetic material (6).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 55 words
Fire-resistant fibre optic cable including at least one optical fibre element (3), at least one tensile element (2), and protective layers (4-8), characterised in that all the layers and elements of the cable, including those for mechanical and fire protection of the cable, have substantially the same thermal coefficient of expansion as the optical fibres.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 55 words
Fire-resistant fibre optic cable including at least one optical fibre element (3), at least one tensile element (2), and protective layers (4-8), characterised in that all the layers and elements of the cable, including those for mechanical and fire protection of the cable, have substantially the same thermal coefficient of expansion as the optical fibres.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 67 words
Fire-resistant fibre optic cable according to claim 1, characterised in that the cable core including the fibre elements (3) and possible filling elements is completely filled with a silicone-based mass or the like, that the filled cable core is covered with at least one layer of mica (5, 7) or the like and that the outer protective layers include an extruded sheath (8) of self-extinguishing halogen-free material.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 34 words
Fire-resistant cable according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that synthetic armouring elements (6) are wound or braided over the cable core underneath the outer sheath with a very long length of lay.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
Fire-resistant cable according to claim 3 or 4, characterised in that one or more layers of synthetic armouring elements (6) are arranged alternately between two or more layers of mica (5, 7).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
Fire-resistant cable according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the mica is provided in the form of tapes wound with 10-50% overlap.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
Fire-resistant cable according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the outermost layer of mica consists of at least two layers of mica tape.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
Fire-resistant cable according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that all the protective layers and any space underneath the outer extruded sheath are filled with a water-repellant mass such as silicone grease.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 39 words
Fire-resistant cable according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the optical fibres included in the cable core are stranded onto the central tensile element with full backtwist to avoid any torsional forces in the fibres.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 47 words
Fire-resistant cable according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the filled cable core (2, 3) is covered with at least one layer of polyester tape (4) or the like to stabilise the core configuration and ensure prolonged circuit integrity during high temperature conditions.
