Method of improving the surface condition of a cylinder
Abstract
To improve the surface condition of a cylinder, the surface of said cylinder is treated by means of a polarized corpuscular beam which is focused so as to form micro-perforations in said surface. The cylinder and the beam are in motion relative to each other, which results in a deformation of the microperforations, and the beam is polarized in a plane substantially perpendicular to the direction of the movement responsible for the deformation of the microperforations. This improves the isotropy of the controlled roughness of the surface.
