Abstract
Abstract A suspension system for an automobile wherein after having been changed over to the «HARD» mode by judging the commencement of the turning, the characteristic of the suspension is not restored to the standard condition until the completion of the turning is detected, so that a stable running performance is obtained irrespective of the status of the curve of a road while a good riding comfort at a normal running is also maintained.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
248 words
A suspension system for an automobile comprising a suspension having variable characteristics, and at least one of a vehicle speed sensor (3) for detecting the speed of the vehicle's wheels, a steering wheel sensor means (2) for detecting the steering condition of the vehicle's steering wheel, a vehicle height sensor (14) for detecting one of a plurality of classified height ranges to which the height of the vehicle body (4) with respect to the vehicle wheel or the vehicle wheel axle belongs and an acceleration sensor (17) for detecting the acceleration of the vehicle so that the suspension characteristic may be changed over according to the operating condition of the vehicle; said system further comprising: a first means (1) for detecting the commencement of the turning of the vehicle on the basis of at least one of the output signals from said vehicle speed sensor, said steering wheel sensor, said vehicle height sensor, and said acceleration sensor to change over the suspension characteristic to a first desirable value so that the suspension characteristic may be disposed in a hard condition; and a second means (1) for detecting the completion of the turning of the venicle on the basis of at least one of the output signals from said vehicle speed sensor, said steering wheel angle sensor, said vehicle height sensor, and said acceleration sensor to change over the suspension characteristic to such a second desirable value so that the suspension characteristic may be disposed in a soft condition.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
69 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first means comprises means for detecting the commencement of the turning on the basis of the vehicle speed provided by said vehicle speed sensor and the steering wheel angular velocity or a steering wheel angle or a steering direction provided by said steering wheel sensor to change over the suspension characteristic to the first desirable value.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
68 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in claim 1 wherein said acceleration sensor is capable of detecting two or more accelerations in the same direction, and said first means comprises means for detecting the commencement of the turning on the basis of the output signal from said acceleration sensor being indicative of a higher acceleration to change over the suspension characteristic to the first desirable value.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
87 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in claim 1 wherein said vehicle height sensor consists of two sensors (14a,14b) disposed in a diagonal line to the front and the rear wheels, and said first means comprises means for detecting the commencement of the turning on the basis of a steering direction or a steering wheel angle provided by said steering wheel sensor and the information provided by the sensors of said vehicle height sensor to change over the suspension characteristic to the first desirable value.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
74 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said second means comprises means for detecting the completion of the turning on the basis of a vehicle speed provided by said vehicle speed sensor and a steering direction or a steering wheel angular velocity or a steering wheel angle provided by said steering wheel sensor to change over the suspension characteristic to the second desirable value.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
74 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said acceleration sensor is capable of detecting accelerations at two or more acceleration in the same direction, and said second means comprises means for detecting the completion of the turning on the basis of the output signal of said acceleration sensor indicative of a lower acceleration to change over the suspension characteristic to the second desirable value.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
102 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said vehicle height sensor consists of two sensors (14a,14b) disposed on the diagonal line of the front and the rear wheels, and said second means comprises means for detecting the completion of the turning on the basis of a vehicle speed provided by said vehicle speed sensor, a steering direction or a steering wheel angle provided by said steering wheel angle sensor and the information provided by the sensors of said vehicle height sensor to change over the suspension characteristic to the second desirable value.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
39 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said second means comprises means for determining the completion of the turning when the vehicle speed is lower than a prescribed value.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
60 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a third means (1) for retaining the suspension characteristic at a desirable value for a predetermined time interval when the time interval from the detection of the commencement of the turning to the detection of the completion of the turning is shorter than said predetermined time interval.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
34 words
A suspension system for an automobile as claimed in claim 9 wherein said predetermined time interval is variable according to the outputs signal from said sensors indicative of the operating condition of the vehicle.
