Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 171 words
A glutamate receptor inhibitor, obtainable from Joro spider venom glands, having the following properties: (1) Molecular weight is within the range of 500 ± 200; (2) It is substantially insoluble in ethyl acetate and soluble in water; (3) The activity remains unchanged when heated to 80°C for 20 minutes in water; (4) The activity remains unchanged when heated to 80°C for 20 minutes in 0.4 M perchloric acid; (5) It shows in electrophoresis neutral electric charge with use of 0.01 M phosphate buffer (pH 7) and positive electric charge using 0.2 M formate buffer (pH 2.25); (6) It develops color with ninhydrin and fluoresces with fluorescamine; (7) It yields Rf values 0.20 on "Silica gel 60 thin-layer plate (E. Merck AG)" developed with phenol-water mixed solvent 3:1 (V/V), and 0.54 and 0.65 on "Cellulose thin-layer plate (E. Merck AG)" developed with phenol-water mixed solvent 3:1 (V/V) and n-propanol-water mixed solvent 7:3 (V/V) respectively; ( 8 ) It shows maximum absorption at 270nm, minimum absorption at 245 nm in water (pH 6.1).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 35 words
A method of making a glutamate receptor inhibitor with the characteristics as defined in claim 1, in which successive steps of crushing, extraction and purification are employed on either Joro Spiders or their venom glands.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method of making a glutamate receptor inhibitor according to claim 2, in which a chromatographic method is employed in the purification step.
