A 2 , A 3 und A 4 jeweils eine 1,4-Cyclohexylen-, 1,3-Dioxan-2,5-diyl-, 1,3-Dithian-2,5-diyl-, Piperidin-1,4-diyl- oder 1,4-Bicy- clo(2,2,2)octylen-Gruppe oder eine unsubstituierte oder durch ein oder zwei F- und/oder CI-Atome und/oder CH 3 -Gruppen und/oder CN-Gruppen substituierte 1,4-Phenylen-, Pyrimidin-2,5-diyl- oder Pyridazin-3,6-diyl-Gruppe, Z 1 und Z 2 jeweils -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH 2 CH 2 -, -OCH 2 -, -CH 2 O oder eine Einfachbindung, und R 3 H, eine Alkyl-, Alkoxy-, Alkanoyl-, Akanoyloxy- oder Alkoxycarbonyl-Gruppe mit jeweils 1-10 C-Atomen, F, Cl, Br oder CN bedeutet, mit der Maßgabe, daß (a) mindestens eine Gruppe A 2 , A 3 und/oder A 4 lateral substituiert ist, (b) 1,3-Dioxan-2,5-diyl- und 1,3-Dithian-2,5-diyl-Gruppen nicht In 2-Stellung und Piperidin-1,4-diyl-Gruppen nicht in 1-Stellung durch Alkoxy, Alkanoyl, Alkanoyloxy, Alkoxycarbonyl, F, Cl, Br, CN oder R 3- A 3- Z 2 substituiert sind, (c) Z 1 nicht -CH 2 CH 2 - bedeutet, falls A 1 -A- ist, und (d) Z 1 nicht -CO-O- bedeutet, falls A 1 -A-A 4- und A 2- R 2 3-Chlor-4-cyanphenyl ist, können als Komponenten flüssigkristalliner Phasen verwendet werden.
